The family of a Whippany Park girls soccer player who was seriously hurt in a car accident has set up a GoFundMe page and detailed the injuries that hospitalized the high school senior.
Molly Mack was injured when two SUVs collided on Route 24 in Morris County on Oct. 27, authorities said. The SUV that was struck overturned and left the teen badly hurt, State Police said. Mack is a team captain who is committed to High Point University.
Mack suffered “multiple fractures in her neck, swelling of the spine, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken arm,” according to the GoFundMe page set up by Jennifer Hamill Gullace and Thomas Hamill – Mack’s aunt and uncle. Mack had a spinal fusion surgery after the accident to relieve pressure on her spine and stabilize her neck, according to the GoFundMe page.
“Molly is a bright, spirited young woman with a passion for soccer, a true leader on and off the field,” the post said. “She was looking forward to finishing her senior year as Captain of the Whippany Park Girls Soccer Team and moving onto the next chapter in her life, continuing her playing career next Fall at High Point University in North Carolina. Her resilience has been inspiring, and through this difficult time, her strength has amazed us all.”
Whippany Park will hold Molly Mack Day on Nov. 21 to raise money for the family of the 18-year-old girls soccer player. The high school announced the fundraiser on its Facebook page last week. The Whippany Park Girls Soccer Booster Club also posted a message on its Facebook page to show its support for Molly and the Mack family.
“Molly Mack exemplifies what it means to be a Wildcat,” the Whippany Park Girls Soccer Booster Club wrote in its post. “Molly is not only one the best players in the state for soccer, but also one of the kindest. Mack’s smile is larger than life. Her character is shown on and off the field as she is the heart and soul of the (Whippany Park) girls soccer team. As the captain, Molly leads by example with her play on the field. Her leadership and her commitment to her teammates is unmatched. Molly is more than just an athlete, she is a wonderful and kind person. We ask that everyone keep Molly, her mom, dad, brothers, the wp girls soccer team, and her friends in your thoughts as we wish her a speedy and full recovery! #wearemollymackstrong”
Below is the complete message from the GoFundMe page:
Family, friends and our extended community –
On Sunday morning, October 27th, our niece Molly Mack, was a passenger involved in a devastating car accident, and now we’re doing all we can to help her recover and reclaim her future. Just days removed from her 18th birthday, with her whole life ahead of her, she now faces a long, challenging journey of healing and recovery.
Molly is a bright, spirited young women with a passion for soccer, a true leader on and off the field. She was looking forward to finishing her senior year as Captain of the Whippany Park Girls Soccer Team and moving onto the next chapter in her life, continuing her playing career next Fall at High Point University in North Carolina.
Her resilience has been inspiring, and through this difficult time, her strength has amazed us all.
The accident left Molly with multiple fractures in her neck, swelling of the spine, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken arm. She survived and endured a spinal fusion surgery earlier this week to relieve pressure on her spine and stabilize her neck. While we are grateful she is still with us, the road to recovery is a long one with countless therapy sessions, medical appointments, and possibly more surgeries along the way.
The mounting medical bills will surely be overwhelming, and she’ll be facing expenses that insurance doesn’t fully cover. From surgeries, to physical therapy, medical equipment and unexpected travel costs, the financial burden will become too much to bear alone. We are humbly asking for your help to give Molly the best chance at a full recovery.
Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference in Molly’s recovery and will help us focus on her healing rather than financial strain. If you’re unable to contribute financially, sharing this campaign with others means the world to us and gets us closer to our goal. Any unused funds will be donated to the ICU Trauma Unit at Morristown Medical Center.
Thank you for taking the time to read Molly’s story. Your support, love and prayers are deeply appreciated as we work to help her regain her health and independence. Together we are Molly Mack Strong.
With gratitude, on behalf of the Mack and Hamill families,
Jennifer Hamill Gullace and Thomas Hamill
